Harper Fowlkes House Wedding Inspiration

One of the most exciting parts of working in the wedding industry is getting to collaborate with so many other talented vendors and artists, and pulling together a finished product to fit the newly wedded couple to a tee. One of the best ways to practice our crafts and create some really exquisite work is through styled shoots. Recently, I had the amazing opportunity to work with a multitude of different wedding vendors throughout Savannah in the Better Together Savannah workshop, and it’s safe to say that the results were nothing less than perfection. Styled shoots allow for everyone to be truly creative and showcase their strengths in new ways, since it is for themselves and not a client. This particular Harper Fowlkes House Wedding Inspiration shoot was an elopement styled shoot, which makes it even more special. Elopements are definitely a very intimate experience, and we get to focus our energy on making the few elements involved pop, and really showcasing the true love and joy between the couple, instead of all of the other details. Our stylist, Tristan Needham did a phenomenal job putting this all together, and creating such a beautiful setting for our shoot. We really couldn’t have done it without her guidance. Without further ado, I’m proud to introduce Young Love, an elopement editorial created in the Better Together workshop.

To set the scene for you, let’s first take a walk through the beautiful Harper Fowlkes House. Harper Fowlkes House began construction in 1843, and has been passed through generations of families for years and years. It now houses some of the most breathtaking gardens and antiques in Savannah, and can be rented out for special occasions. When you first arrive, it’s easy to become completely enchanted by the antiquated property. From the lush greenery crawling up the brick walls, to the light sounds of the fountain flowing, it’s definitely a place where you can get lost easily in the magic. The classic, vintage feel of the house truly created the perfect setting for us to work our own bit of magic, and lends itself to light, delicate colors and soft accents.  

For me, one of the most spectacular parts of this shoot was the stunning wedding cake, which was created by Savannah’s Hall of Cakes. Featuring a three tier design in simple white frosting and captivating floral accents, this cake could definitely be the envy of all brides. What I personally loved about this cake in particular was the roses. Done in a sunny pastel yellow and white color palette, the flowers are, without a doubt, the star of this cake, and the rich green leaves mimic that of the greenery of the Harper Fowlkes House perfectly.

While calligraphy may be a growing staple in the bridal and wedding industries today, this timeless classic has been around for centuries, and classes up just about any gathering. The beautiful invitations seen here were crafted by Michaela McBride, and it’s safe to say she did an excellent job. The light, almost featherlike writing, tied with the subtle blue and white floral printed envelopes create a sense of serenity and peace, and really went along so well with the whole theme of eloping.

Now of course, what’s any sort of wedding without the ring? Susie Saltzman did a phenomenal job with providing us the perfect ring for our session. Combining a raw and simplistic aesthetic with a classic gold band was the perfect move for this particular theme, and the ring looked absolutely stunning in the calming blue ring box from The Mrs Box.

As I mentioned with the cake, the sweet blooming roses really took my breath away against the simple setting, and we have Colonial House of Flowers to thank for that. Throughout the entire shoot, you can see stunning floral arrangements in warm shades of yellow, peach, and white, which contrasted beautifully with the greenery around them. Savannah Vintage Rentals and Ooh Events provided our rentals for the day, which really nailed in our aesthetic and mood for the elopement. Simple wooden chairs, clean white napkins and table cloth, and simple dining ware gave us that high class, yet understated look that we wanted.

Our beautiful bride to be was truly a vision for the shoot. Dressed in the perfect wedding gown designed by Pronovias, and featured in Bleubelle Bridal, she truly took everyone’s breath away the moment she came out. The gown featured a simple, delicate lace in an off white tone, and fit right in with the vintage backdrop of Harper Fowlkes House. With a high neck, sleeveless top, fitted bodice, and long flowing train, this gown is the perfect option for brides who want a flattering, yet delicate and vintage feel on their big day. Lauren Kitchens of Royal Makeup and Hair did a lovely job making our bride look her best. With a simple up do and natural makeup, she showed that the old saying “Style is to be simple” really does work wonders.

With any blushing bride comes her dashing groom. Our groom for the day looked nothing short of striking in his tuxedo from The Black Tux. Keeping true to the simplicity of the day, our groom sported a simple black bow tie, and brown leather accents, such as his dress shoes and watch, to tie in the neutral tones that surrounded him. The charming boutonniere helps draw our attention back to the beautiful floral arrangements around the house, and keeps a subtle reminder of the timeless art of clean and minimal accents.

While the setting, décor, and wardrobe were completely outstanding, the real focus of any marriage is on the couple themselves. We were truly blessed to have models Anna Heritage and Tim McCarthy join us for the day, and their chemistry together was simply undeniable. With styled shoots, we sometimes lose a little bit of the spark since it’s not the actual day, but these two kept the flame alive, and their talent was truly not unnoticed.
