Best Places to Take Engagement Photos in Savannah
Whether you are a born and raised resident, or a wander luster, Savannah’s magic and charm attract lovers from all around the world.
You can’t help but feel enamored with the sights and scenes that Savannah has to offer from the enchanting Spanish moss to the cobblestone streets or the stunning mansions.
All these and other features make Savannah the ultimate place to come and have photographs taken for every occasion.
With all of the possible locations around the city, it can be hard to narrow it down to just one place to take those magical engagement photos.
We’ve compiled a list of the best places to take engagement photos in Savannah.
1. Forsyth Park
If you are looking for classic Savannah, look no further.
Forsyth Park is a must-see for any first time visitor and seasoned guest alike. It is iconic and timeless, without seeming too overdone.
From the gorgeous Forsyth Fountain in the middle of the park to the stunning trees, this location also allows for a multitude of different shots in the same session.
The lighting is also breathtaking, especially once it is around 5:30 pm. You can see the light streaming through the trees, drawing intricate and flawless shadows and casts on the ground, and the couples themselves.
In fact, the light at Forsyth Park is one of the top reasons it is one of the best places to take engagement photos in Savannah.
It is also a convenient location, especially if you are planning to have more than one outfit.
Forsyth Café is located on the park grounds, which provides a quick way to change and freshen up in between shots.
And of course, nothing is more romantic than being close to your love, listening to the quiet trickle of the fountain, and seeing your own shadows dance across the ground.
Just make sure to come during the week so you can avoid the typical touristic crowd.
2. Wormsloe Plantation
Much like Forsyth Park, Wormsloe Plantation is an iconic Savannah location.
If you are looking for something classic, yet unique, this plantation is your place.
Wormsloe Plantation was the infamous filming location for the movie, Forrest Gump, and is absolutely stunning in every sense of the word.
This location gives the ultimate “Wow” factor for your engagement photos.
It is hard to beat the beautiful sights of Wormsloe.
The Plantation is much quieter than Forsyth, yet practical and features stunning lighting spilling through the moss with a very serene and peaceful atmosphere.
This location also showcases the tranquil outdoor setting that many couples love about parks without cliché or overdone.
The cool thing about Wormsloe is that it is impossible to replicate.
And how cool would it be to say that you took some of the most intimate and romantic photos of your life on the set of a famous Hollywood classic?
3. Tybee Island
While Tybee Island is technically not in Savannah, it is still one of the most beautiful places to have your engagement photos done.
Tybee is the closest beach to Savannah, making it perfect for those of you beach lovers out there.
While it is on the east coast, portions of the beach face the west coast, making it possible for you to get sunset images!
The breathtaking light and soft sand feel straight out of a dream.
This beach has also been the set for iconic movies such as The Last Song, and Baywatch, which adds a unique factor to your engagement photo session.
Featuring tide pools, sand dunes, and a beautiful pier, Tybee Island allows for various settings while keeping consistent with the theme.
Tybee is reasonably quiet during the week, creating the perfect environment to capture those intimate moments with your soon to be spouse without interruptions.
And once the photos are done, you can bring a picnic basket and have a romantic beach picnic with your love while watching the sunset … how romantic!
4. Historic Downtown
If beaches and parks aren’t really your scene, you have other choices!
Downtown Savannah offers a lot of different options for engagement photo locations that aren’t as outdoorsy.
Whether you choose to go down to Broughton street for some more retro pictures near Lucas Theatre or to River Street for more eclectic and vintage elements, there is an alternative for everyone!
Not feeling the hustle and bustle of the touristy areas?
You can always head over to Jones Street, which has been considered the most beautiful street in America, and take photos around the Victorian Homes, cobblestone road, and Spanish moss “tunnels.”
This area is exceptionally relaxed, and most homeowners don’t mind if you stop to take pictures in front of the houses in this area.
Streets like these show off the true architectural beauty of Savannah and still feel unique and romantic for the couple making historic downtown one of the best places to take engagement photos in Savannah.
Honorable Mention- Railroad Museum:
This location is definitely not for everyone, but if you want something totally different and eccentric, the Railroad Museum is a really cool choice.
Unlike the other options, this location allows for a more industrial feel, yet still offers a lot of variety in the shots.
There are both indoor and outdoor areas, as well as areas with and without trains.
You could even go as far as to get into character and dress up in a more vintage wardrobe for a really retro, quirky, and fun shoot.
In summary, engagement photography is such a romantic and intimate experience for couples, and many times, it is the very first time they are having professional photos taken.
Finding a location that suits not only your personalities, and functionality is such a vital part of this process, and once you’ve located it, we as photographers can really see your unique traits and love you have for one another shine through the lenses.
If you find yourself here in Savannah, make sure to take a look at all of these beautiful locations, and who knows?
Maybe one of them will steal your heart.
