Tirzah + Doug | Savannah Engagement Photos

Shooting engagement photos at Forsyth Park in Savannah is always a fun affair. Tirzah and Doug are as in love as two people can be, and the calm, cool breeze of the early spring air blanketed us in a soothing hug of new possibilities. I saw them from a distance – their smiles said they were happy to be there and that it was going to be a magical shoot.

I was surprised to see so many flowers at the park so early in the season, but mother nature was set on blooming her petals early this year, perhaps just for them. These are some photos that I captured while I strolled around the park before our engagement session.

My team and I are the photographers and videographers for Tirzah and Doug’s Savannah October wedding. As this was our first meeting, I wanted to impress them with some amazing images. I met them around 9 am and the morning golden hour was still in full effect, melting away the dew drops; birds were singing and all was well.

As soon as I saw them, I knew I had a home run photoshoot in the works as they were dressed super cute in mint and lavender colors. I felt like their outfits were just beckoning the spring to start. For my first set up I simply asked them to sit at a bench and be themselves. I kept my distance and used a long zoom lens so that they would be comfortable while I stood pretty far away.

The combination of moss, tree leaves, and flowers in the background made for a kaleidoscope of shapes and textures, and the Canon 50mm f/1.2 really showed its powerful bokeh. I loved how the couples “popped” from the background so that I could concentrate on their wonderful expressions of love. This is what engagement photos should look like!

I love detail shots of the engagement rings, especially closeups of couples’ grasping hands as I find that rings by themselves can be cold, boring shots, while these are warm, tender, and loving.

Savannah’s parks truly set the scene for engagement photos and I never have to do much to make couples look good, especially this time of year when gorgeous fuchsia flowers are in full bloom. When I saw this tree I just knew I had to place them in front of it as the groom’s pants matched the tree perfectly!

All in all, this was a really magical session with so much real love and so much help from our natural surroundings that my work taking these engagement photos was a breeze. I can’t wait to photograph their wedding!
