Sheldon Church Ruins Weddings Styled Shoot

I was so happy to be a part of this styled shoot that took place at Sheldon Church Ruins Weddings Styled Shoot and styled by August Floral and Event Design in Savannah, Georgia. With the stunning backdrop of the old Sheldon Church ruins, we were so creatively inspired to work with the whimsical and vintage look the old brick archway and natural vinery offered the wedding photos.

Set under an old willow tree, non-matching vintage wooden chairs matched the atmosphere for an intimate head table. Lace was the perfect way to dress the setting and pay homage to old-fashioned Southern style, while drawing out the classic look of silverware vases, delicate florals and fresh fruit. A whimsical combination of pink, yellow and white flowers in a bold mix of wild daisies and curated roses, the decor offered a fresh yet vintage touch of detail we were so thrilled to achieve. These florals sat perfectly against vintage additions from Savannah Vintage Rentals and would be a great way to add unique details to any Savannah wedding reception.

Lilian’s China worked alongside us and contributed dainty and traditional gold-rimmed chinaware boasting a whimsical collection of whites, pinks and yellows in a variety of traditional designs your grandmother would be proud to display in her china cabinet. August Floral added the perfect touch to complete the look with a delicate rose sitting atop the fragile china and the stunning look of the reception table was complete. The bride’s flower crown, created by August Floral and Event Design, sat perfectly against a natural and bohemian approach to hair and makeup by Mirror Mirror Hair and Makeup, based out of Charleston, South Carolina. The laid back yet perfectly pretty style of the barefoot bride gorgeously sat against her ruched wedding dress and fall-off-the-shoulder sleeves.

The choice of gray for the groom’s trousers and suspenders offered a non-traditional approach to groom attire and offered a bit of a throwback to the 1950s, although juxtaposed against a barefoot groom created more whimsy and added to the carefree feel we wanted to achieve. Rum Runners Cake worked with us on our whimsical theme to create a two-tiered brushed white cake with bright and fun interior layers that brought out the wedding’s fun floral details. The yellow bicycle tied everything together and is a great inspiration for fun and simple ways to add unique touches to your wedding reception.

Shooting wedding photos at these old ruins was amazing. There is so much detail in all of the crumbling brick work, and the old stairways and archways had me feeling like I was living in The Secret Garden. The shades of green in the forests nearby created a vibrant mix of color that complimented the bohemian and natural look we were aiming to achieve. With yellows, whites, pinks and greens setting the tone for a fresh, vibrant and whimsical shoot, old ruins didn’t have to feel so old. Vintage details from Savannah Vintage Rentals paired with a modern approach to bohemian weddings made for a perfectly balanced shoot; timeless yet modern and with inspiration to appeal to brides of all types. Thank you to the stylists at August Floral and Event Design for so beautifully drawing everything together in such a cohesive way.
